Product Review: Melinda’s Sauces
Disclosure: I was given this product in exchange for this post. All opinions here are my own.
Tired of reaching for the same ol’ hot sauce? With over thirty flavors and heat profiles, Melinda’s will spice up all your meals (pun intended).
A huge fan of trying new hot sauces, I was ecstatic when given the opportunity to sample the Chef Fig Heat and Flavor Collection. There are five sauces ranging from mild and tasty to spicy and edgy. Each sauce has colored flame icons indicating its spice level. The more flames, the hotter the territory.
The packaging is lovely while the dropper on each bottle allows for controlled pouring instead of a torrential downpour on your meal. It would make a great staple in your kitchen, or a gift for the holidays.
Here is what I think of all the sauces, with a rating out of five for each one.
Jalapeño
Although not as spicy as I prefer, I still enjoyed the flavor of this one.
I tried it with white rice and tilapia and while I poured a generous amount, it wasn’t too spicy or hot. It has a nice mild flavor, making it a good intro spice.
Truth be told, I didn’t think it was spicy at all. But, it added a good touch of flavor.
Even if you don’t like raw jalapeños, you should still try it.

Mango
This sauce is sweet and not spicy at all. Honestly, it tastes like it should be in a smoothie. I tried this with ground turkey and white rice.
This varietal is okay to me, but not one I would first grab.

Garlic
I was greeted with garlicky heat on the first bite. This is the hottest of the three lowest rated sauces (referring to the fire icons on the bottle). It was particularly enjoyable with turkey bolognese and other tomato sauce based dishes.

Scotch Bonnet
This is it!! I loved the instant heat on this one. There is a slightly sweet tang on the finish that is oh so pleasant. I paired this with ground turkey and white rice. My only regret is not adding more to my dish.
Rating: 5/5
Red Savina
Though there is instant heat with this one too, it is not as flavorful as the Scotch Bonnet. However, there was no doubt the spice was there. I definitely had to drink more water with this one! I ate it with white rice, veggies, chicken, avocado.
Rating: 4/5
Ghost Pepper
This is the perfect hot sauce, in my opinion. It’s hot enough to make your nose run, but not enough to give you acid reflux. It’s just *chef kiss*. Hands down, my favorite. I ate it with ground turkey and white rice in lettuce cups. If the heat sounds too intense for you, consider using one of the other sauces mentioned here and add maybe 1–2 drops of the Ghost Pepper for a slightly less intense experience.
