Product Review: Hubee

If you are in search of making your lifestyle more “green”, start in the kitchen. Hubee, whose name derives from “hub” and “bee”, uses environmentally-responsible components for their products. Their sustainable products are aesthetically pleasing with bright pops of color and rounded designs, with inspiration coming from bees and their hives.
Hubee also donates 1% of their annual sales to nonprofits that place emphasis on LGBTQ+ issues, gender equality, kids’ heath, and the environment, so you can feel even better using their products. I had the opportunity of trying a few, all of which are dishwasher safe and BPA free.
True to its name, this ice cube tray is shaped like a cute little beehive. Its small size makes 12 cubes without taking up too much space in your freezer. An added bonus is the cover, which allows for stacking.
The best part is that it’s made of silicone, so it’s quick to pop the ice cubes out. There is also a little strap attached to the base for hanging, maximizing storage opportunities.
This product is air-powered and is used by pressing down on the top knob to make the inner components spin. It comes with three interchangeable pieces: blades, an impeller, and a basket. The blades are used for slicing or cutting, the impeller for food mixing (Ex. egg yolk), and the basket is used for draining water (Ex. cleaning/rinsing food).
We used the blades for onions and even though you do have to slice the onions beforehand, it saves time prepping overall. One of the best features was the ability to control the size of the pieces: the more times we pressed down on the spinner, the more finely sliced the pieces became. It was easy to clean but still had a bit of an onion smell afterward. I solved this by soaking the base overnight with water and a little dish soap.
The top, inner blade, and base come apart and since there’s no cord to worry about, there are plenty of ways to store it.
This chopper is powered by pulling on the “nose” of the product, which is a string that causes the inner blades to spin.
Not only is this piece cute, but it’s very functional as well. It also saves time in chopping garlic and is arguably safer, as you are not using a knife close to your fingers. The same rule applies here as to the Multi-Function Food Spinner: the more times you pull the string, the smaller the pieces become.
This too was easy to clean and it also comes with a tiny brush attached to the bottom to help clean the inside. The garlic smell can be taken out by simply soaking the base overnight with water and a little dish soap. However, I did not soak the top. I would advise using minimal water on the top as you do not want the string to get too damp and corrode over time. A quick wipe with a sponge should do the trick. Note that the top, bottom, and inner blades come apart for this product as well.
