Food Review: Chi-Rizo from CHi Foods
Disclosure: I was given this product in exchange for this post. All opinions here are my own.
CHi Foods is known for their plant-based ground pork. Organic, gluten-free, and soy-free, CHi Foods contain high protein and are easy to cook.
Flavors include Original, Chi-Rizo, Italian Herb, and Maple Sage. I tried the Chi-Rizo and was pleasantly surprised.
For starters, the chi-rizo took less than 5 minutes to cook. Additionally, no oil was needed on the skillet we used, making the process easy to prep and clean.
I paired it with brown rice and vegetables. I loved the spicy flavoring and knew I made the right flavor choice. The texture was certainly reminiscent of pork, but it did not smell or taste like it, per se. Regardless, I still think this is a great meat substitute and at 44 grams of protein, it was exceptionally filling.
On the flip side, my boyfriend liked the spice but wasn’t fond of the “plant aftertaste”. So, this product may not be best for hardcore meat lovers, but instead may work for those interested in a more plant-based lifestyle.
I can definitely see the appeal of CHi Foods products. Compared to pork, they last longer in storage, are quicker to cook, and there is little to no harm with undercooking.
