Book Review: The Dare by Natasha Preston

Disclosure: I was given a copy of this book in exchange for this post. All opinions here are my own.

Natasha Preston’s The Dare is a guilty pleasure of a YA thriller! Packed with red herrings and turns, the final twist comes at the second to the last page.

The Wilder family has been passing on their penchant for wild dares to each high school senior class year after year in their sleepy rural town. A repercussion for missing out on said dares include blackmail, while a repercussion for following through can cause legal implications.

Marley and her friends are tasked with a rather dangerous challenge.
What follows is a moral reckoning and the realization that those who Marley thought were close to her are indeed the furthest away.

The inscription reads, “For everyone who loves to relax by spending days in a state of constant anxiety and stress reading about murder.” To further support this statement, I will admit that I binged this novel in three days and audibly gasped at the end.

Preston ensures that there is humor sprinkled throughout. There is funny banter and sarcastic bickering among the characters, which adds a much needed levity.

I recommend The Dare for those who want to dip their toes in the thriller genre as it is an easy and entertaining read.
