Book Review: Known to the Victim by K.L. Armstrong

Disclosure: I was given a copy of this book in exchange for this post. All opinions here are my own.

Known to the Victim follows Amy Gibson, whose mother was tragically murdered while she was in college. Gibson turns her grief into a true crime podcast that focuses on women’s safety and unsuspecting killers. When her brother Olivier is suspected of a horrific crime, Gibson is forced to confront a scenario that she often speaks about on her show. With numerous twists, Known to the Victim will make you question everything that comes to mind.

At first, the characters are hard to keep straight since a ton were introduced right off the bat. The conversations also seemed rather verbose and although I did appreciate the witty banter (especially between Amy and Castillo), brevity is best when there are numerous instances of dialogue.

It wasn’t that I was losing interest BUT it seemed like a slow burn. However, it paid off.

The first twist came and it was out of left field. I highly doubt a reader, no many how many thriller books they have read, could have ever predicted that.

The twist unfolds, leading to a few more twists and reaches a peak that I could not conjure up.

Moral of the story? Trust no one.

One of my critiques is that the pacing felt a bit off overall. It started off slow then rushed at the end for the last 15 pages.

I also not like the last two pages, but cannot reveal why as it would be a major spoiler.

Despite my criticism, I rate this thriller four out of five stars. It is wildly entertaining and a fun read overall.
